Vacancy Short Description : 12-18 months horticultural apprenticeship at Green Island Gardens, a 20acre professionally designed garden open to the public for 10 months of the year.
Qualifications Required : Entry onto the apprenticeship is subject to a thorough initial assessment to establish course suitability. Applicants should have at least 4 GCSEs including English and Maths at grades A-D or 9- 4. Evidence of qualifications will be required.
Character and desire to work more important than any academic qualifications, although a good degree of common senses required
Vacancy Full Description : The apprentice will work alongside garden designer /owner learning all aspects of maintenance of a large garden open to the public including operating machinery such as hedge trimmer, hayter, strimmer, tractor and trailer.
Maintenance of woodland gardens, main beds, gravel garden, vegetable garden and water gardens included, as well growing nursery stock in poly tunnels.

Working Week : Mon-Fri 9.15am-4.15pm
Salary : £117.00 Per Week

Garden Design training
Will attend any courses that run at the gardens…see website for details. In addition the apprentice will have the support and guidance of a qualified assessor from the college, who will make on-site visits every 6-8 weeks. There may be the occasional need to attend either the Otley or Easton campus for short training courses and tests.
Other Information : You may be required to help out serving the public at the gate, in the tearoom, or nursery
Some weekend work may be required.
Things to consider : Have to be able to work outside in all weathers
Have to be physically fit and reasonably strong
