Vacancy Full Description : Apprentice groom job available in Colchester (Junc 28 A12). We are a small private dressage yard with 5 completion horses looking for someone to join our team working 5 days a week (normally - Sunday - Thursday 8am -4pm). Fully subsidised training through accredited provider, which can be undertaken directly after GCSE or later.
You will work alongside an experienced yard manager, yard supervisor and professional rider and will always work in a team of at least two. Role involves all usual yard duties, plus training towards competition grooming. We are a small yard so can offer more time towards your training whilst enabling you to work in a professional environment. Full training provided but previous experience with horses essential. Sorry no accommodation and due to location you must have your own transport/access to a lift as we are not currently accessible via public transport (although this will change from December). Personal Qualities : Attention to detail, reliable and hard working
Skills Required : You will preferably have experience of large warmbloods although this is not essential as full training will be provided. The ideal candidate will have had their own horse or loan horse and have a good basic level of daily horse care and management
Future Prospects : You will work alongside our yard manager who is an experience and professional equestrian who has managed a variety of competition yards and has herself evented to 1* level. You will receive daily training and support from the yard manger, yard owner and onsite professional rider Garry Williams. The yard owner is completing at advance level working towards GP and Garry competes both nationally and internationally so experience of dressage through the levels is offered to the successful candidate. For the right person and following training we will also offer the opportunity to compete.

College Attendance: NONE
Training for all job specific tasks will be given. In addition the apprentice will have the support and guidance of a qualified assessor from the college, who will make on-site visits every 6-8 weeks. There may be the occasional need to attend either the Otley or Easton campus for short training courses and tests.
Other Information : Pay Rates: The current NMW rate for Apprentices is £3.70 per hour with effect from 1st April 2018. This applies to 16-18 year old Apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other Apprentices the Apprentice National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The wage for Apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent in training. Shortlisting/Interviews - Shortlisting and interviews will take place throughout the duration of the vacancy ad. This may mean that the vacancy could close before the published cut-off date should suitable candidates be found.
Things to consider : Whilst you will be looking after competition horses, this role includes all yard duties and you must be prepared to work both individually and as part of a team to complete these. You may at times be required to stay and oversee the yard whilst the owner and yard manger attend competitions.
