Vacancy Full Description : The job purpose is to learn to provide the service of a Fitness Consultant to customers using our fitness suite at Clacton Leisure Centre.
Once qualified you will have the relevant skills and knowledge to carry out gym inductions and deliver bespoke exercise programmes. This industry recognised qualification will give you a rewarding opportunity to help improve the health and wellbeing of many people and gain enormous job satisfaction.
Key Job Activities are:
• To assist with booked induction’s and programme updates of new and existing members into the fitness suite.
• To assist with the cleaning duties involving the general cleaning and maintenance of the fitness equipment on a regular basis.
• To ensure reporting procedures are followed.
• To use our booking systems and book inductions if deemed appropriate
• To answer the telephones
• To report to the fitness manager if the rules of the fitness suite are not complied with.
• To ensure all injuries and accidents sustained in Lifestyles gym are reported to the fitness manager or a qualified member of staff to deal with.
• To assist in the public relations outreach and forthcoming promotions related to Lifestyles fitness suite events programme.
• Ensure all customers receive follow up care throughout their membership.
• Assist with retention initiatives including follow up appointments.
• Help to correlate attendance and retention data.
3. SUPERVISION AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The post holder will only work within the guidelines of the Apprenticeship, and is not permitted to prescribe any exercise until a level 2 Fitness Instructor qualification is achieved and permission gained from the Fitness Manager.
The post holder should seek the advice of their Manager on difficult or contentious issues.
4. SPECIAL CONDITIONS
The post holder must comply with legislative requirements of health, safety and welfare ensuring good practice standards at all times.
To ensure proper adherence to the Council’s Grievance, Disciplinary,
Capability, Harassment and other personnel policies and procedures.
Take all possible reasonable steps to create a harmonious working
environment using consultation, effective communication and team working techniques.
To wear the staff uniform provided when on duty.
To meet the needs of the business. A flexible approach to working hours is essential, as is the need to work at other Tendring District Council sports facilities as required.

Working Week : 5day week to include occasional weekends and Bank Holidays
Salary : £156.75 Per Week

Personal Qualities : The candidate must have an outgoing and friendly manner with the ability to motivate and inspire people. A polite telephone manner is required as is a good degree of personal fitness

Future Prospects : A level 2 Gym Instructor qualification is the minimum requirement that is needed to work in any fitness suite and the basic foundation for future progression. However we as an employer cannot guarantee a position here once the post holder has completed his or her qualification. It is though, an amazing opportunity for the right person to develop progress and increase their employability within the Fitness Industry.
Training to be Provided : Sport - Exercise & Fitness (Gym) Level 2 including Functional Skills in Maths and English if required
Other Information : Pay Rates: The current NMW rate for Apprentices is £3.90 per hour with effect from 1st April 2019. This applies to 16-18 year old Apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other Apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. Apprentices need to be employed for a minimum of 30 hours per week in the industry with a contract of employment
Shortlisting/Interviews - Shortlisting and interviews will take place throughout the duration of the vacancy advert. This may mean that the vacancy could close before the published cut-off date should suitable candidates be found.
Things to consider : Candidates will not be able to carry out inductions until both the practical and theory have been completed.
There is a considerable amount of studying which includes physiology and anatomy. This comprises of the study of muscles bones and their actions. It also includes the heart and lungs and covers various aspects of health and safety and Leisure Management.
