Qualifications Required : Entry onto the apprenticeship is subject to a thorough initial assessment to establish course suitability. Applicants should have at least 4 GCSEs including English and Maths at grades A-C or 9- 4. Apprentices need to be employed for minimum of 30 hours a week in the industry with a contract of employment.
Proof of qualifications will be required before you can be accepted onto the apprenticeship.
PLEASE NOTE: Those without the stated entry requirements or awaiting GCSE/GCSE retake grades, may be offered an appointment to come into college (Easton or Otley campus) and sit an online assessment to confirm program suitability.
Vacancy Full Description : To join a top quality farm team of 50 staff on a vegetable and combinable crops farm growing: potatoes, onions and root vegetables. Light sandy soils utilising a modern irrigations system. Large areas of conservation which include rare habitats home to ‘red list’ birds and mammals. Working with the support of a mentor to include:
- Crop Walking and QC work
- Crop Modelling and recording systems
- Arable cultivations and corn carting
- Supporting the drill operator
- Operating precision farming computer technology
- Tractor maintenance and cleaning, utilising the modern farm workshop
- Conservation work and general farm maintenance
- Record keeping, store work and monitoring
- Working with Fendt tractors JCB Telehandler

Applicants need to meet the legal requirement to drive a 7t trailer on the road


location will be at Rakeheath Farm yard nr Brandon or /Beatrice yard both on the Estate TBC on appointment

Personal Qualities : Someone with common sense who can work as a team and, once trained, on their own with high value equipment. Who is keen and enthusiastic and enjoys working outside at all times of the year. Who can organise themselves, is methodical and tidy and gets satisfaction from a job well done.
Skills Required : This is a modern progressive business looking for someone who is practical and enjoys being hands on. Able to demonstrate accuracy and numeracy with record keeping, who is mechanically minded with some computer skills. Having an interest in and understanding of the countryside is helpful along with a willingness to learn. No agricultural background is necessary

Future Prospects : The apprenticeship could lead to a full-time position as an integral part of the farms team. Scope to take work-based certificates e.g. forklift, PA1 & PA2 etc
The apprentice will be provided with a mentor to help them get the maximum benefit from their training
Training to be Provided : Crop Production Technician Standard Level 3 including Functional Skills in Maths and English if required

Other Information : Pay Rates: The current NMW rate for Apprentices is £3.90 per hour with effect from 1st April 2019. This applies to 16-18-year-old Apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other Apprentices the Apprentice National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The wage for Apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent in training. Working Week: Basic Monday to Friday with O/T as required Monday-Sunday

Basic Hours 7.30-16.30 with O/T as required

40 hours per week plus O/T at commercial rates as required at peak periods


Shortlisting/Interviews - Shortlisting and interviews will take place throughout the duration of the vacancy ad. This may mean that the vacancy could close before the published cut-off date should suitable candidates be found.
Things to consider : The work is outside and can be in all weathers. Being physically fit and mechanically minded is an advantage. The nature of the job means that some work will be repetitive, especially at the beginning of the training period. There will be overtime, paid a fully commercial rates, during peak periods such as planting and harvest.
