Vacancy Short Description : The apprentice will undertake work-based training through a variety of different activities to provide them with the first skills needed to develop a career in environmental conservation.
Qualifications Required : Entry onto the apprenticeship is subject to a thorough initial assessment to establish course suitability. Applicants should have at least 4 GCSEs including English and Maths at grades A-C or 9- 4. Apprentices need to be employed for minimum of 30 hours a week in the industry with a contract of employment.
Proof of qualifications will be required before you can be accepted onto the apprenticeship.
PLEASE NOTE: Those without the stated entry requirements or awaiting GCSE/GCSE retake grades, may be offered an appointment to come into college (Easton or Otley campus) and sit an online assessment to confirm program suitability.
Vacancy Full Description : To assist the small team of NWT staff to implement and undertake nature reserve management involving:
• Scrub management
• Maintenance of electric and permanent fencing
• Maintenance of buildings and infrastructure
• Use of machinery such as, mowers, chainsaws, brushcutters, ATV, tractor, boats, hand tools
• Routine maintenance of equipment
• Use of herbicides
• Working with conservation livestock
• Working with contractors
• Wildlife surveying
• Assist with the reserve visitor centre
• Recording biological data
2 Attend Easton College as often as required in the terms of the apprenticeship.
3 Supervise volunteers and placements in the day to day running of the reserve.
4 To undertake general land management duties as agreed with the site warden. This will include a range of work related to environmental conservation and land management tasks.
5 Assist the Warden and other staff in stock management including regular checking and movements.
6 Ensure compliance with the Trust's health and safety policy.
7 Operate and ensure maintenance of machinery and equipment to approved standards. Keep records as directed and advise reserve Warden of any machinery requirements.
8 Undertake routine patrolling of the reserve(s) to enforce Trust rules and policies and notify reserve Warden of any serious infringements.
9 Assist the Warden in the collection of biological / environmental data.

Ability to maintain good relations with visitors, volunteers and staff in a friendly and courteous manner.
Skills Required : After training, to have the ability to have safe and sustained use of reserve machinery and equipment or be trained.
As a member of the Holme Dunes team you may be required to undertake/assist with specific tasks, to ensure efficient and effective running and provision of services (e.g. providing cover for colleagues; assisting with displays, activities).

Training to be Provided : Intermediate Countryside Management - Environmental Conservation Level 2 including Functional Skills in Maths and English if required
Other Information : Pay Rates: The current NMW rate for Apprentices is £3.70 per hour with effect from 1st April 2018. This applies to 16-18 year old Apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other Apprentices the Apprentice National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The wage for Apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent in training.
