Vacancy Full Description : Full time apprentice groom job available in Colchester (Junc 28 A12). We are a small private dressage yard with 6 competition horses looking for someone to join our team working 5 days a week (normally Tuesday-Saturday) Hours are 8am-4pm however you will need to be flexible on occasions due to the nature of working with horses. Horses are regularly out training and competing so you must be comfortable handling large competition horses. You will work in a small friendly team but on occasion will need to take sole charge of the yard. Role involves all usual yard duties, with riding a possibility for the right person. A professional rider and experienced yard manager will be on site 4/5 days a week so a full and high calibre of training will be provided.
The successful candidate for this role will be passionate about horses and their care, keen to learn and 100% reliable. With regrets there is no accommodation and due to our location you must have your own transport- presently there is no access to public transport.

Skills Required : Preferably you will have experience of large warm bloods although this is not essential as full training will be provided. The ideal candidate will have had their own horse or loan horse and have a good basic level of daily horse care and management
Future Prospects : You will work alongside our yard manager who is an experienced and professional equestrian who has managed a variety of competition yards and has herself evented to 1* level. You will receive daily training and support from the yard manger, yard owner and onsite professional rider Garry Williams. The yard owner is completing at advance level working towards GP and Garry competes both nationally and internationally so experience of dressage through the levels is offered to the successful candidate. For the right person and following training we will also offer the opportunity to compete.
Training to be Provided : Equine Groom Standard including Functional Skills in Maths and English if required
Other Information : Pay Rates: The current NMW rate for Apprentices is £3.70 per hour with effect from 1st April 2018. This applies to 16-18 year old Apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other Apprentices the Apprentice National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The wage for Apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent in training. Things to consider : Whilst you will be looking after competition horses, this role includes all yard duties and you must be prepared to work both individually and as part of a team to complete these. You may at times be required to stay and oversee the yard whilst the owner and yard manger attend competitions.
