Vacancy Short Description : An opportunity to join our small team of gardeners on a private country estate with a very varied workload

 

Qualifications Required : Entry onto the apprenticeship is subject to a thorough initial assessment to establish course suitability. Applicants should have at least 4 GCSEs including English and Maths at grades A-E or 9- 2. Evidence of qualifications will be required. Apprentices need to be employed for minimum of 30 hours a week in the industry with a contract of employment. Assessment at either campus may be required.
Vacancy Full Description : Working with a small team of gardeners based in large private gardens who also look after the grounds and gardens of a number of other properties owned by the estate.
The work load is extremely varied and includes but is not limited to:

Grass cutting and turf maintenance
Weeding
Pruning
Propagation
Planting
Hedge cutting
Tree management
Estate repairs
Firewood processing
Using a range of powered machinery and hand tools

Working Week : 32 per wk Mon -Thur 8am - 4.30pm
Salary : £160.00 Per Week

Future Prospects : There is the potential for permanent employment upon completion of the apprenticeship, subject to the estate circumstances at the time.
Training to be Provided : Qualification: Level 2 Horticultural Apprenticeship Framework
College Attendance: NONE
Training for all job specific tasks will be given. In addition the apprentice will have the support and guidance of a qualified assessor from the college, who will make on-site visits every 6-8 weeks. There may be the occasional need to attend either the Otley or Easton campus for short training courses and tests.
Other Information : Pay Rates: The current NMW rate for Apprentices is £3.70 per hour with effect from 1st April 2018. This applies to 16-18 year old Apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other Apprentices the Apprentice National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The wage for Apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent in training. Working Week: 32 per wk Mon -Th 8am - 4.30. 30 minutes unpaid lunch break and 15 minute morning break each day.
Shortlisting/Interviews - Shortlisting and interviews will take place throughout the duration of the vacancy ad. This may mean that the vacancy could close before the published cut-off date should suitable candidates be found.
Things to consider : The estate is located in the middle of the countryside, with no public transport links
The work in mainly outdoors in all weathers so candidates must be prepared to work in hot/cold/wet weather
The work includes a significant amount of manual labour so consideration must be given to the physical nature of the role.
The family participate in country pursuits (hunting and shooting)
