Vacancy Short Description : Culford school seeks to employ a young and motivated individual who wishes to learn about horticulture in a professional environment within a large private school & estate.

 

Qualifications Required : 4 GCSE’s incl. Maths & English A-E/9-2. Evidence will be required. You may be asked to attend at either campus for Maths and English assessments.
Vacancy Full Description : Reporting to the Head of Grounds and Gardens and working & learning from the gardener the successful candidate will undertake the following duties;
• Propagation of plants from seed, plugs & cuttings
• Glass house work
• All aspects of lawn maintainance
• Tree pruning
• Topiary
• Hedge cutting
• Border maintainance
• Planting up
• fence building
• tractor based based operations & use of other machinery
• Pond and lake management
• Refuse collection around the site
• Construction of patios and other hard landscaping tasks
• Shrub pruning
Number of Positions Available : 1
Working Week : 37.5 hrs 7.5 per day
Salary : £163.46 Per Week

Skills Required : An interest in gardening is essential and the ability to learn
Future Prospects : Future employment may be available to the right candidate depending on how they progress through their apprenticeship
Training to be Provided : Intermediate Horticulture - Parks, Gardens & Green Spaces Level 2 including Functional Skills in Maths and English if required
Other Information : Pay Rates: The current NMW rate for Apprentices is £3.70 per hour with effect from 1st April 2018. This applies to 16-18 year old Apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other Apprentices the Apprentice National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The wage for Apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent in training. Apprentices need to be employed for a minimum of 30 hours per week in the industry with a contract of employment
Working Week:
• 37.5 hours per week
• 7.5 per day
• One 30 min paid break
• Free lunches
• 28 days annual leave + bank holidays
• Some weekend working will be required through the summer months on a rota basis where you will be accompanied
