Vacancy Short Description : An opportunity to work for an industry leading horticultural business at one of the UK’s largest glasshouses.
Performs a wide variety of general crop husbandry tasks and working towards technical standards throughout the on-site supply chain.

 

Qualifications Required : Entry onto the apprenticeship is subject to a thorough initial assessment to establish course suitability. Applicants should have at least 4 GCSEs including English and Maths at grades A-E or 9- 2. Applicants may be required to attend at Easton or Otley campus for assessment. Evidence of qualifications must be produced on request.

Work with Growing Team to ensure that the plants are maintained and care for to the specified standard.


A keen interest in horticulture
• You will receive on the job training in various parts of the business, including growing and managing crops using computerised climate control systems
• Routine maintenance of key irrigation & crop application equipment
• Pest and disease control
• Be fully aware of the environmental conditions required and achieved throughout the growing season
• Be a part of the glasshouse duty management team

Working Week : 7:30 – 4:00 (M-Th) 7:30 – 3:00 (Fri)
Salary : £285.80 Per Week

Personal Qualities : Physically capable to carry out manual tasks as required with attention to detail
Flexible with working hours/days in order to complete necessary tasks
Ability to work within a team and also independently – can work with minimum supervision and prioritise workload effectively in the absence of direct supervision.
Skills Required : Adhering to safety practices; handling hazardous materials, able to work on heights when required (up to 4m)
Making Decisions and Solving Problems - analysing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems
Organising, Planning, and Prioritising Work - developing specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish your work
Future Prospects : This placement will provide the candidate with an extremely varied insight into the pharmaceutical industry having experienced many aspects of the business. Future prospects for the candidate will be broad due to having gained a foundation understanding of operations, technical and crop. The experience gained will be adaptable to many different companies.
Training to be Provided : Production Horticulture qualifaction Level 3 including Functional Skills in Maths and English if required
Other Information : Pay Rates: The current NMW rate for Apprentices is £3.70 per hour with effect from 1st April 2017. This applies to 16-18 year old Apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other Apprentices the Apprentice National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The wage for Apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent in training. Apprentices need to be employed for a minimum of 30 hours per week in the industry with a contract of employment
Working Week: There are standard hours of work:
7:30 – 4:00 (Monday – Thursday)
7:30 – 3:00 (Friday)
You are entitled to two unpaid breaks of 30 minutes.
It is a condition of your employment that you work flexibly in accordance with the working arrangements which the Company operates.
