Qualifications Required : Entry onto the apprenticeship is subject to a thorough initial assessment to establish course suitability. Applicants should have at least 4 GCSEs including English and Maths at grades A-D or 9- 3.
Vacancy Full Description : To join a small team to assist and gradually learn to take responsibility on a wide range of arable tasks where including:
• Arable cultivations, corn cart and supporting the drill operator
• Operating precision farming computer technology
• Tractor maintenance and cleaning, utilising the farm workshop
• Machinery cleaning to prevent cross contamination
• Conservation work and general farm maintenance
• Record keeping, grain store work inc loading lorries
• Some basic livestock work with sheep
• Deer park
Working with John Deere tractors

Working Week : M - F 8.00 – 4.30 with breaks 7.5hr day 39 hr week

Personal Qualities : A person who is keen and enthusiastic, is fit and enjoys working outside at all times of the year. Who can organise themselves, is methodical and tidy and gets satisfaction from a job well done. Someone who will be a good ambassador for an estate with a public profile through its gardens and wedding venue.
Skills Required : Full current driving license is desirable as the applicant will need to meet the requirements to drive a 3.5 t and 7.5t trailer on the road. A practical, mechanically minded, hands on person who is numerate and an accurate record keeper. A good team worker who is equally capable of working on their own once trained. Someone who is reliable, is familiar with computer technology and is responsible with high value machinery. Some livestock skills
Future Prospects : Scope to be put through a number of work based certificates such as PA1 & forklift truck. Possibility for progression to a full time position for the right person. The apprentice will be provided with a mentor to help them get the maximum benefit from their training
Training to be Provided : Qualification: Arable level 3 Apprenticeship
College Attendance in 6 one week blocks at Easton Campus
Training for all job specific tasks will be given. In addition the apprentice will have the support and guidance of a qualified assessor from the college, who will make on-site visits every 6-8 weeks. There may be the occasional need to attend either the Otley or Easton campus for short training courses and tests.
Other Information : Pay Rates: The current NMW rate for Apprentices is £3.70 per hour with effect from 1st April 2018. This applies to 16-18 year old Apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other Apprentices the Apprentice National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The wage for Apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent in training. Apprentices need to be employed for a minimum of 30 hours per week in the industry with a contract of employment

Shortlisting/Interviews - Shortlisting and interviews will take place throughout the duration of the vacancy ad. This may mean that the vacancy could close before the published cut-off date should suitable candidates be found.
Things to consider : The driving license is desirable as the farm is in a remote location and tractors with trailers will need to be driven on the road. The work is outside and can be in all weathers. Being physically fit and mechanically minded is an advantage. The nature of the job means that some work will be repetitive, especially at the beginning of the training period. There will be overtime , paid a fully commercial rates, during peak periods such as harvest.
