Vacancy Short Description : A unique opportunity to learn everything about rearing grass fed sheep and beef whilst also working part time with a highly professional quality paddock fencing and arboriculture team.


Qualifications Required : Entry onto the apprenticeship is subject to a thorough initial assessment to establish course suitability. Applicants should have at least 4 GCSEs including English and Maths at grades A-C or 9- 4. Evidence of qualifications will be required. Apprentices need to be employed for minimum of 30 hours a week in the industry with a contract of employment.
Vacancy Full Description : LOCATION
Livestock Copt Hall Ipswich Road, Bildeston Ipswich IP7 7BH
Other: Common Farm, Hole Road, Chelsworth, Ipswich IP7 7HW

Assisting the full time shepherd with a 1500 sheep flock and 50 head suckler beef grass fed reared to finishing. Also learning professional agricultural fencing and tree management skills. The livestock are in several locations.
• Livestock welfare, stockmanship
• Feeding , lambing and calving, tupping and AI
• Handling medicines, medical and livestock records
• Winter housing, strawing yards, mucking out
• Stock fencing and other types of fencing skills
• Some arboriculture skills
• Operating a chain saw, driving all-terrain vehicles. telehandler and some tractor work , bale handling, silage
• Some grass land management

Working Week : 40 hrs m - F 8.00 – 5.00 with lunch and short breaks
Salary : £200.00 Per Week

Personal Qualities : Someone who is practical, hands on and physically fit who likes working in rural areas. Is a team player but can work on their own once trained. A non smoker preferred as working with inflammable materials such as straw
Skills Required : A full current driving licence is essential . Good observation skills with strong attention to detail and empathy with animals. A neat accurate record keeper and numerate, being mechanically minded is an advantage.
Future Prospects : The employer is expecting this to lead to a full time position with good career prospects. Plenty of scope to take work based certificates such as chainsaw, tele handler, chemicals handling PA1 and PA2
Training to be Provided : Qualification: Agricultural Livestock L2 Apprenticeship
College Attendance at Easton and Otley: 6 x one week blocks starting in October
Training for all job specific tasks will be given. In addition, the apprentice will have the support and guidance of a qualified assessor from the college, who will make on-site visits every 6-8 weeks.
Other Information : Pay Rates: The current NMW rate for Apprentices is £3.70 per hour with effect from 1st April 2018. This applies to 16-18 year old Apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other Apprentices the Apprentice National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The wage for Apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent in training. Working Week: Monday to Friday
8.00 – 5.00 with lunch and short breaks
40 hour week and some weekend work with overtime paid at commercial rates

Things to consider : The work is in remote rural areas so a driving license is essential, you will be working outside in all weathers which is great most of the time but not always such fun in the winter. Livestock require attention every day so there will be some weekend work. Peak periods such as lambing will require longer hours.
The post requires a mixture of livestock and fencing work
