Vacancy Short Description : A great way to start a farming career with an employer who has an excellent track record of supporting apprentices into full time employment. Working on a modern arable farm with scope to learn plenty of skills.
Qualifications Required : Entry onto the apprenticeship is subject to a thorough initial assessment to establish course suitability. Applicants should have at least 4 GCSEs including English and Maths at grades A-E or 9- 3. Apprentices need to be employed for minimum of 30 hours a week in the industry with a contract of employment.
Vacancy Full Description : To work in a small team with the scope to progress to gain a wide range of arable farming skills progressing to No2 tractor driver. Using John Deere and Claas tractors work will include:
• Arable cultivations, grain carting at harvest, and supporting the drill operator
• Grain store work and loading lorries including teleporter use
• Conservation and woodland management
• Machinery maintenance in a modern on farm workshop, tractor cleaning
• General farm maintenance, fencing and drainage
• Record keeping
• Hedging cutting once sufficiently skilled

Working Week : 39 hrs M-F 7.30 - 4.30 and 3.30 Fri

Personal Qualities : Practical common sense, able to organise yourself, problem solve and contribute as experience is gained, to be methodical and tidy and get satisfaction from a job well done. To be happy to be working outdoors all year round.
Skills Required : A full clean driving licence is essential. This is a modern progressive business looking for someone who is practical and enjoys being hands on. Mechanically minded, numerate and able to keep neat accurate records. A good communicator who enjoys working as part of a team but can take responsibility to work on their own once trained. Someone who understands the countryside is helpful but a willingness to learn is more important than having previous faming experience
Future Prospects : Excellent prospects to move to a full time post for the right person. Necessary worked based training certificates will be included such as teleporter handler
Training to be Provided : Duration: 18 - 24 months
Qualification: L2/L3 agriculture apprenticeship
College Attendance: Block weeks
Training for all job specific tasks will be given. In addition, the apprentice will have the support and guidance of a qualified assessor from the college, who will make on-site visits every 6-8 weeks. There may be the occasional need to attend either the Otley or Easton campus for short training courses and tests.
Other Information : Pay Rates: The current NMW rate for Apprentices is £3.70 per hour with effect from 1st April 2018. This applies to 16-18 year old Apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other Apprentices the Apprentice National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The wage for Apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent in training. Working Week: 7.30 – 4.30 Mon- Thurs 3.30 Fri. I hr for lunch plus two breaks
Shortlisting/Interviews - Shortlisting and interviews will take place throughout the duration of the vacancy ad. This may mean that the vacancy could close before the published cut-off date should suitable candidates be found.
Things to consider : A full driving licence is essential. Being physically fit is an advantage the nature of the work means that it can be repetitive, especially at the beginning of the training period. 4 GCSES including maths and English grades 3-4 the employer would be very happy to support someone who wants to work up to a Higher Apprenticeship. Peak periods such as harvest and cultivations will require longer hours with over time paid at commercial rates.
