Vacancy Short Description : This is an opportunity to work on a brand new poultry operation with a young team, as well as helping out on a 3000 acre arable unit using the most up to date technologies.


Qualifications Required : Entry onto the apprenticeship is subject to a thorough initial assessment to establish course suitability. Applicants should have at least 4 GCSEs including English and Maths at grades A-E or 9- 2. Evidence of qualifications will be required.
Vacancy Full Description : The role is to work with a new young team in a 4 shed poultry unit in which the aim is to double in size in the next few years. The work will be primarily working on a day to day basis in the poultry unit, walking the sheds, monitoring the birds, and at busy times help on the arable unit. We run a fleet of Fendt tractors all with RTK systems and we would hope to train you on Teleporters for use on both units. The candidate would need to be flexible and open to new technologies. Over time will be paid at £7.50 per hour.

Personal Qualities : We would hope the candidate would keen to progress in the poultry industry and be able to think for themselves. Attention to detail is a quality that would be expected.
Skills Required : Ability to work in a team but also be prepared to work on your own within that team. Ability to use machinery (with appropriate training given) and be flexible
Future Prospects : The Poultry unit is a brand new operation and the intention is to double its size in the near future. Hence there will be a full time role available for a suitable candidate at the end of the apprenticeship.
Training to be Provided : Qualification: Mixed livestock and arable
College Attendance: Block weeks
Training for all job specific tasks will be given. In addition the apprentice will have the support and guidance of a qualified assessor from the college, who will make on-site visits every 6-8 weeks. There may be the occasional need to attend either the Otley or Easton campus for short training courses and tests. We would hope to train you in the use of Teleporters and various satellite related operations (variable rate spreading, auto guide, yield mapping)
Other Information : Pay Rates: The current NMW rate for Apprentices is £3.70 per hour with effect from 1st April 2018. This applies to 16-18 year old Apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other Apprentices the Apprentice National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The wage for Apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent in training. Apprentices need to be employed for a minimum of 30 hours per week in the industry with a contract of employment

Working Week: The role is for a 39 hour week although the candidate would be expected to work some weekends at peak times (harvest) or on a rota basis for the livestock. The day is from 7.30am – 4pm with 30 minutes for lunch. Overtime would be seasonal for arable and dependent on flock cycle. Over time will be paid at £7.50 per hour.

The initial starting pay will be £195 per week, with overtime being paid at the rate of £7.50 per hour. There will also be some bonus’ based on flock performance.

Things to consider : This role is primarily working inside poultry sheds and although there will be some arable work it will primarily be a poultry-based role.
