Qualifications Required : Entry onto the apprenticeship is subject to a thorough initial assessment to establish course suitability. Applicants should have at least 4 GCSEs including English and Maths at grades A-E or 9- 3. Evidence of qualifications will be required.
Vacancy Full Description : The role is to work in the Grounds Maintenance Team which comprises the Head of Grounds and two other members of Grounds staff. The grounds are a vital part of the School providing play, learning and sporting facilities. The team carry out all aspects of the work which includes things as diverse as cricket pitch maintenance, marking out, ornamental lawn care, hedge cutting, tending to herbaceous borders, setting up stands for the Norfolk Show or floral displays for the annual Prize Day. Candidates will learn to use a variety of different equipment and horticultural methods along with an understanding of tree care.

Skills Required : No prior skills required but must be responsible, reliable and trustworthy.
Future Prospects : The School fully supports training and developing young apprentices giving them a full range of experience in both horticulture and sports grounds maintenance. However, the School is a small concern with a grounds team of only three permanent members of staff and so there would be no guarantee of continuing employment at the end of the apprenticeship.
Training to be Provided : Qualification: Level 2 Diploma in Horticulture
College Attendance: No regular attendance at present
Training for all job specific tasks will be given. In addition the apprentice will have the support and guidance of a qualified assessor from the college, who will make on-site visits every 6-8 weeks. There may be the occasional need to attend either the Otley or Easton campus for short training courses and tests.
Other Information : Pay Rates: The current NMW rate for Apprentices is £3.70 per hour with effect from 1st April 2017. This applies to 16-18 year old Apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other Apprentices the Apprentice National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The wage for Apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent in training. Apprentices need to be employed for a minimum of 30 hours per week in the industry with a contract of employment

Working Week: Monday to Friday, 7am to 4pm, with an hour for lunch (unpaid) which is provided. Midmorning and mid-afternoon breaks of 30 minutes duties allowing.

Things to consider : This vacancy is for work that is almost exclusively based outdoors. The candidate must be prepared to work in all weathers, uniform and appropriate PPE is provided. The candidate needs to be physically fit. The role is labour intensive, involves long periods of time standing and using heavy equipment at times.
