Qualifications Required : Entry onto the apprenticeship is subject to a thorough initial assessment to establish course suitability. Applicants should have at least 4 GCSEs including English and Maths at grades A-C or 9- 4. Apprentices need to be employed for minimum of 30 hours a week in the industry with a contract of employment.
Proof of qualifications will be required before you can be accepted onto the apprenticeship.
PLEASE NOTE: Those without the stated entry requirements or awaiting GCSE/GCSE retake grades, may be offered an appointment to come into college (Easton or Otley campus) and sit an online assessment to confirm program suitability.
Vacancy Full Description : Responsibilities will include working with two other staff members to undertake general yard duties on a daily basis to ensure the yard runs smoothly each day and to provide the highest possible standard of care to the clients and horses on livery at Moats Way.
There will be the opportunity to study for further qualifications such as BHS exams and first aid.
Main duties include feeding, turning out and bringing in horses; changing rugs and picking out feet and washing off if necessary; grooming horses, holding horses and assisting vets and farriers when required; cleaning and maintaining tack; mucking out; tidying yard; pasture management and general maintenance of the arena -levelling as required; exercising horses.

Working Week : 4 day week 8am – 5pm to include some weekends and bank holidays.
Salary : £118.40 Per Week

Personal Qualities : Reliable, hardworking, flexible, trustworthy, friendly and able to have a sense of humour. Team player and prepared to work in all weathers any day of the week.
Skills Required : Needs to be able to drive. Have a basic level of horse handling and be a confident rider, willing to learn more.
Future Prospects : There will be further opportunities to continue training for qualifications in all areas for the right candidate and the possibility of an offer of a full time position at Moats Way once the apprenticeship is completed satisfactorily.
Training to be Provided : Qualification: Level 2 Horse care
College Attendance: NONE
Training for all job specific tasks will be given. In addition the apprentice will have the support and guidance of a qualified assessor from the college, who will make on-site visits every 6-8 weeks. There may be the occasional need to attend either the Otley or Easton campus for short training courses and tests.
Other Information : Pay Rates: The current NMW rate for Apprentices is £3.70 per hour with effect from 1st April 2018. This applies to 16-18 year old Apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other Apprentices the Apprentice National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The wage for Apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent in training. Working Week: 5days to include some weekends and bank holidays. 2 half hour unpaid breaks for breakfast and lunch. Holiday cover if needed.
